What Do We Tell Them
What Do We Tell Them is a reflection on the shared experiences of women who have been oppressed and violated due to their identities. This piece examines the ways in which, through shared creative expression and friendship, women might overcome the constraints of a society intent on maintaining traditional power structures. In physical and gestural movement centered on the power of human connection, we hope to create honest inquiry into the themes of beauty and desire as bodies in motion.
Inspired by an excerpt from a poem by Megan Pinto:
“ What do we tell little girls about beauty and desire? Less music? More color? Or perhaps hush. ”
Presented as part of the WAXworks showcase at Triskelion Arts theater. Created and performed by Molar Movement Projects, a collective composed of Kathleen Dalton (choreographer, dancer, social worker) and Sonja Petermann (interdisciplinary artist).
